We develop and implement the Polak game as a teaching module that teachers can implement in their existing courses. The Polak game stimulates reflection and discussion among students and teachers to establish common ground for collective climate action. Figure 1 below provides an illustration of implementing the Polak game (developed in WP2) in class.

We have successfully run a pilot with the Polak game with a large audience (N ~125) who participated in the Klimaatsymposium organized by Dynamics of Youth/NJI/JKB (https://www.uu.nl/agenda/symposium-de-impact-van-klimaatverandering-op-opvoeden-en-opgroeien, Becht was involved in the organization).

Learning goals

  1. Reflecting on one’s experienced sense of ‘agency’ concerning the climate crisis.
  2. Experiencing ‘connectedness’ with others through collective reflection on the climate crisis.
  3. Understanding one’s emotions related to the climate crisis and their imagination of the future.
